Coats, Communion, Chips and Salsa

hey everyone...

hope you are all enjoying the Christmas Season!!

This Wednesday evening (17dec) we are going to meet in
the upstairs classroom at 6pm to sort the growing mound
of coats which we plan to distribute at the Secret Santa
event on Thursday evening (18dec) also at 6pm.

After the coat sorting on Wednesday evening we will head
downstairs to participate in the "drop in" communion service,
around 7pm, and then we are off to the El Sombrero (thompson
bridge/blockbuster location) for dinner.

We'd love for you to join us for the whole evening but if you're
running late or have to be home early join us when you can.

pumpkin fest

Lions and tigers and... panthers? no way!!

Yes we will be hiking panther creek this weekend. As advertised there are NO panthers on panther creek and no lions or bears. So it should be safe for everyone. We will meet at the church at 10am on Saturday morning and then carpool up to the trail. Pack a lunch we will eat when we get out to the falls. The hike is an out and back total distance is about 6 miles and its pretty flat. Should be a great day for it! Hope to see you all on Saturday morning...

christmas in september

Merry Christmas,

I know its early for that but its time to get started on our annual Christmas Coat Drive. We are planning on meeting tomorrow night (thats wednesday september 24th) in our luxurious classroom to wrap some boxes which will be placed around the church as receptacles for the coats. Bring Big Boxes, wrapping paper, scissors and tape, oh and your Christmas spirit. We'll order some pizza and make a regular party out of it. That's this Wednesday night at 6pm...see you then.

PS great job to bryan and wilson on the fiesta football tailgate last Saturday. The Fajitas were awesome. Thanks guys!!

Tailgate Fiesta and Football

hey everyone...

don't forget that we have a tailgate party this saturday night at Brian Morris's Apartment. Apparently there is a Georgia game that night at 8pm. They are playing some team from Arizona. Fiesta style food (cooked up by Wilson) will be available around 630. Brian lives in the apartment complex directly behind Chili's in Gainesville. His apartment number is 924 and rumor has it that you can access the gate with the code 1980.

October 29th - Pumpkin Fest - Lakewood's Fall Festival. We (20's) are going to have our own booth this year...something to do with face painting and FAIR HAIR..

Sunday School Location in the a.m.

Tomorrow for sunday school the 20 somethings will be meeting in the Lodge in the High School Room to listen to Chris Orr lead worship at 9:30. I hope you all are able to make it! We will continue with Collosians Ch 2 next Sunday!

The guys in Randy's House (Mike, Jason, Randy) are having a book sale this Saturday at their house. Over 700 books on sale. Sale starts at 9am and runs into the afternoon. Bosnia, NASA and you

Its time to gear up for the annual mission trip to the Balkans. This year its back to Sarajevo, Bosnia. Its a 1 week trip from 7-16 November. This year we will be supporting a Seminar on "Success" by Dr Harold Finch, former NASA APOLLO mission engineer. As usual we will be focusing on relationship building with university students and advertising for the seminars.

Its a great opportunity to stretch your faith and share your life with people of a different culture.

Trip info meeting is scheduled for right after church on August 10th. Commitments needed by 31 August.

Jamin's farewell

hey everyone...

For those of you that didn't know.. Jamin Ward has taken a new job back home in AL-Bany, Georgia. He will only be around a couple more weeks. There is going to be a farewell party for him this Saturday night at the Crossroads Grill... We will certainly miss Jamin but are happy that he will be back home with his fam. Come on out and help send Jamin off. Rumor has it there may be some bowling going on after the meal...(at the bowling alley, not the grill!!)

As memorial day slides into the rear view mirror and summer is suddenly upon us.. I've got a couple questions..

Are you a buster or a mosaic?
Is your faith more about what you are "for" or what you are "against"
What do your "outside the church" friends think about you and your faith?

Would it surprise you that over 90% of "outsiders" think of us primarily as anti-gay, judgemental and hypocritical?

Does it matter and what can you do about it?

For the next several weeks we are going to be taking a look at a new book.
It just might change the way you see yourself and "outsiders".

pascagula, mississippi

hey everyone... FYI there is a very short mission trip gearing up to go to Pascagula at the end of april to help out the people STILL recovering from Hurricane Katrina.

We will be doing a variety of projects and NO special construction skills are required. We will be staying at a local church who will be providing meals as well.

The cost is somewhere around $100. We are leaving on Thursday the 24th and returning on Sunday the 27th

information meeting this Sunday (march 2nd) after church at 1230. Come by if you are interested or at least for the free Pizza...

Randy Owens reports that things are going well with Randy's House. They are planning on opening a book store and coffee house this spring. Its gonna be called "Books and Brews: A Latte Library". The coffee house will be located at 321 Spring Street (just off the square). The will be selling new and used books. If you want to donate any books for the coffee shop you can bring them by Randy's House any time.

In addition, Randy's House is planning a Dinner/Auction at the Chattahoochee Country Club on Feb 8th.

Abraham, Sarah and Pharaoh

Abraham and Sarah head down to Egypt to escape a famine in Canaan. On the way down Abraham tells his wife Sarah: "hey baby in case anyone asks.. just tell em your my sister". nice. When they get there, Pharaoh lays eyes on Sarah and decides to bring her into "the fold". Abraham doesn't lift a finger. What's up with this story?? What's the point?
