reading genesis: a delicate proposition

This egg (located in a museum in Israel) has the entire book of Genesis written on it...looks like hebrew to me..
I hope the dude who did this blew the yoke and whites out first...
I wonder about the dualism of this idea: egg (beginning of life) and genesis (begining of life)...
hopefully your bible is slightly easier to read...
coat drive
hey guys... its time to get the Coat Drive up and running... You may ask yourself "Coat Drive? What Coat Drive?" Well as a reminder every year we collect new and gently used coats from the church to distribute to the good folks at Linwood. We will "gift" them at an event at Linwood in December.
To get the ball rolling we need to set up boxes around the church for the coats. We are going to be meeting this thursday afternoon November 15th at 4pm to "decorate" and set up the boxes. If you would like to help out...bring a roll or two or wrapping paper and meet us upstairs in the 20's classroom...

Hey Cain, where's the beef?
Soooo.. we started taking a look at Genesis this week and had a good discussion yesterday in class... There's some amazing stories in Genesis but if you begin to ask WHY as you look at some of these stories you begin to see that there is a lot more to them then initially meets the eye. Next week we will be taking a look at Cain and Abel... Why did Abel's offering please God and Cain's fall short? Hmmmmm....

Fireworks
We had a few fireworks in class on Sunday morning.
Jason and I got in to a relatively heated discussion.
Bottom line is I handled the situation poorly and owe
each of you an apology.
Jason is a friend who has been like a brother to me.
Over the last couple years Jason and I have debated
many of these issues at length. I love these discussions..
but I didn't want our class time to turn into the Jim and
Jason show.
Jason and I are and will continue to be great friends. We
have worked through this..and our relationship has been
restored (we went mountain biking this morning).
The irony of the whole thing is that one of the main points
of the lesson was that we spend to much time arguing about
stuff and miss the central point of Jesus teaching...
love God..love each other.
2 Timothy 2:23-25 pretty well sums it up:
Don't have anything to do with foolish and stupid arguments,
because you know they produce quarrels. And the Lord's servant
must not quarrel; he must be kind to everyone, able to teach
not resentful. Those who oppose him he must gently instruct...
We will start over again with Movement 1 Jump next week...
Peace to each of you

Velvet Elvis..Repainting the Christian Faith
So we dove into the velvet elvis this weekend...
hope each of you will enjoy this study...
Remember our Truth for the week is Hebrews 13:8
"Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever"
We will be looking at chapter 1 JUMP next week
read it if you want to be in the "know"...
Finally... how do you need "repaint" your Christian Faith?
What do you need to get back to the 'basics' on?
or what old "thing" do you need to look at with a fresh set of eyes?
peace to each of you...

What would Jonah do??
So we've been taking a closer look at Jonah the past
couple weeks in class...Next week we'll wrap it up as
we talk about what Jesus thinks about Jonah. As Sarah
suggested yesterday: WE (all of us) are a lot like
Jonah and thats not a pretty sight. So how are you
acting like Jonah...
Are you running from God?
Are you asleep down below when all hands are needed topside?
Who are you judging? Who are you prejudice against?
Are you loving your neighbor as yourself? Or are you more
concerned with your "vine"
Would your rather die then change your ways??
Who do you need to forgive??
think about it... see you next week!!

Please pray for Jennifer Westbrook's Coworker
We received devastating news at school today. Our technology teacher (who celebrated his retirement yesterday) found out last night that his 29 year old daughter was brutally beaten and murdered by a man she had been in a relationship with yesterday in West Palm Beach. She was attempting to get to the airport to get away from him. The man committed suicide after he killed her. My colleague's name is Ron Kozak. His daughter is Amy. He also has 2 sons around the same age.
Please lift up Ron, his sons, and his ex-wife during this horrible time.

South Africa Mission Trip
Hello everyone! I hope you all had a blessed Easter (and that you stayed warm!).
I just wanted to post a request for your prayers for the mission trip to South Africa. We are leaving this afternoon and will be back home April 23rd. The Baptist International Mission Board Southern Africa Cluster is having a confrence in Shelley Beach, South Africa, and we will be doing a VBS for their children while the adults are in their classes. Once we're finshed with that, we're going to spend time with Jane Lawson (for those of you who don't know, Jane is a member of our church, and is a Nurse Missionary in Johannesburg). We will also take a day safari, and fly up to Zambia to see Victoria Falls. It'll be a really awesome time, and I'm excited to see how God will use us. I appreciate your prayers for health and safety for my team and I, and also that we will be flexible and open to whatever God wants to use us for.
I'll post some pictures when we get back; I'll see ya'll in a few weeks!
Love,
Cindy

Pray for Sarajevo...
Please keep Sarajevo in your prayers. Immediately I would ask that you pray for the salvation of a guy named Jasmin and a girl named Amra. These two, both Muslim, are seemingly close to excepting Christ. Also, I would ask for you to specifically lift up Samir, Emir, Vedad, and Ogy. Pray the Lord would reveal Himself to these guys.
